In conjunction with Rogers Free Library and the Jane Bodell endowment, acclaimed novelist Jennifer Haigh will read and discuss. An Open Access Scholarly Publishing Journal from MDPI. Journal rankings of specific research fields are often used for evaluation purposes, both of authors and institutions. These rankings can be defined by means of several methods, as expert assessment, scholarly- based agreements, or by the ordering induced by a numeric index associated to the prestige of the journals. In order to be efficient and accepted by the research community, it must preserve the ordering over time, at least up to a point. Otherwise, the procedure for defining the ranking must be revised to assure that it reflects the presumably stable characteristic “prestige” that it claims to be quantifying. A mathematical model based on fractional p- variations of the values of the order number of each journal in a time series of journal rankings is explained, and its main properties are shown.
As an example, we study the evolution of two given ordered lists of journals through an eleven- year series. These journal ranks are defined by using the 2- year Impact Factor of Thomson- Reuters (nowadays Clarivate Analytics) lists for MATHEMATICS and PHYSICS, APPLIED from 2. As an application of our model, we define an index that precludes the use of journal ranks for evaluation purposes when some minimal requirements on the associated fractional p- variations are not satisfied. The final conclusion is that the list of mathematics does not satisfy the requirements on the p- variations, while the list of applied physics does. Idm 6 14 Build 5 Full Exhaust . Using Google Scholar to Determine the Most Cited Criminology and Criminal Justice- Related Books. Building on recent research investigating the role of books in the discipline of criminology and criminal justice (C/CJ), this paper uses Google Scholar to identify the most cited books in the field. ![]() In particular, the researchers examined the most cited books in four different eras. Prior to. 19. 00, the most cited C/CJ- related book was On the Origin of Species. Merton’s Social Theory and Social Structure was the most cited book in the second era (1. The third era (1. Foucault’s Discipline & Punish. And in the final era (2. Garland’s Culture of Control was the most cited work. The researchers also sought to determine the most cited books by women and African Americans/Blacks. The most cited book by a female author was Judith Herman’s Trauma and Recovery, and the most cited book by an African American/Black scholar was William Julius Wilson’s The Truly Disadvantaged. The authors conclude by arguing for the continued emphasis on demarcating the “great books” in the discipline. ![]()
